Call for FY2025 Science Tokyo GAP Fund Program

Overview

At Science Tokyo, innovative and cutting-edge research outcomes are generated daily. However, to translate these into societal impact and contribute to the future, we must bridge the gap between research achievements and practical application. The Science Tokyo GAP Fund Program (STGF) is an on-campus startup support program that builds upon the legacy of the former Tokyo Tech GAP Fund Program. It provides funding for prototype development and other essential resources to faculty and students aiming for the practical application of their technological seeds, along with team-building support necessary for commercialization.

Furthermore, in April 2025, our university universally adopted the Visionary Initiative (VI), a research framework aimed at realizing a positive future. In recent years, expectations for startups that can pioneer new markets to solve rapidly evolving societal and future challenges have been steadily increasing.

This call for applications seeks research projects that leverage our university’s innovative technological seeds to create university-launched ventures targeting global markets and those with high social impact contributing to the achievement of the SDGs. Successful projects will receive funding for essential research and business development expenses. With the support of the Office of Innovation Design, these projects will work towards launching startups and securing funding for their next stages. We anticipate that the STGF will catalyze a new wave of startups from Tokyo Institute of Technology researchers and students, ultimately contributing to the advancement of the VI.
